4-S Border Leicesters

Welcome to Bella’s Belles

Bella’s Belles is the blog home of 4-S Border Leicsters. 4-S Border Leicsters is the farm name of the Sather family which is composed of Todd (dad), Mindy (mom), Gage (little brother) and me, Brody! I am 10 years old and I love Border Leicsters!!

What is a Border Leicster?!? A Border Leicster is the most beautiful breed of sheep in the entire world!!!! They are a heritage breed of sheep that is in danger of extinction. They are a british breed of longwool sheep. They are raised for both meat and wool so they are considered dual purpose.

Bella is my two year old border Leicster ewe. I got bella from a conservation contest. I had to write an essay about why I wanted to save an endangered breed. Breeders donate ewes to the contest for kids to start there own flock. My breeder was Heidi Barkley, her and her family have helped me so much. I have shown Bella all year I won all 8 of the breed classes we entered, we won supreme champion at the Maryland state fair and took her to Louisville, KY for the North American International Livestock Expo where she was 4th in her open class of yearling ewes. Bella is due with her first set of lambs in February. I am so PUMPED!!! To say Bella has blessed our family is an understatement. We love her and the breed so much.

While in Louisville we added to our flock by purchasing a ewe lamb. Her name is Lilly and is the first of the Belles. She is extremely sweet and has lots of good breed characteristics. I am excited to show her next year along with Bella’s lambs.

This blog is going to educate people on the Border Leicester breed and give people a glimpse into raising and showing wool breeds of sheep.
